Domain Registering FAQ
- What is a Domain Name?
A Domain name is a text name for a 'real' internet address, which is
called an Internet protocol (IP) number (eg 20.202.70.33). Yahoo.com
is an example of a domain name
- What are the steps to registering a domain name?
1.Search for domain name availability
2.Fill out registration form
3.Fill in your Credit card Information
4.Or make a payment
5.Submit your Order
- How can I find out who a given domain name is registered to?
You can use a tool called whois to access the central Registry database;
this database contains details of every domain name. There are many
places around the Web where you can enter a query to search the database.
- Can I park my domain name with your hosting company?
Yes! If you register your domain name with us, we will park
it for free by providing you with a Domain Parking Site.
- Who owns a domain name?
As long as you pay the fees regularly then you do. You are
the individual or organisation at the top of the WHOIS record. The administrative,
technical and billing contacts are individuals who are trusted by you
to carry out the relevant work. The technical contact will usually be
provided by the Internet Service Provider
- I just did a WHOIS lookup on my new domain name and it says
there is no match (still available)?
The WHOIS database of the registries usually gets updated once a day.
Your domain name information will not show up until the WHOIS database
is updated. Please wait 24hrs before doing a WHOIS search on your newly
registered domain name.
- What is "DNS" (Domain Name System)?
The Internet was built on the notion that any computer on a global network
can be identified by its numeric Internet Protocol (IP) address. But
since people, and not machines, are the primary users of the Internet,
a more people-friendly naming system called the Domain Name System (DNS)
was invented. DNS maps a host name like www.rwgusa.com to the IP address
of the machine that hosts the RWGUSA web site. For example, DNS actually
maps the host name www.rwgusa.com to the IP address 12.105.227.18
DNS is built upon the notion that some server's are 'authoritative'
(meaning, knows all there is to know) for certain domains. A distributed
name server hierarchy, beginning with the A Root Server and ending at
the thousands of nameservers active on the Internet, ensures that the
naming and directing system works the same from anywhere.
- What is a Top Level Domain (TLD) that I can register?
There are currently four TLDs available for registration, they are .com,
.net, .org, .info. .biz .tv .cc .ws There are more TLDs in the process
of being approved by ICANN, click for more information.
- What if the name I want to use is already taken?
As suggested above you can try a different domain. You can also try
a slight variation. For example, to register an address with dash and
numbers.
- How long does it take for the domain registration process
to be completed?
The process normally takes 24 hours to complete. After 48 hours, you
will be visible and the public WHOIS database. Two confirmation will
be send via e-mail. The first confirming the success of your order and
the second containing your final confirmation and register key for future
changes. If you have signed up for hosting, you will also receive your
user name and server password. Your e-mail addresses will be setup the
same time.
